When something, or someone, is chingón, that means they, or it, are really, really good.  So good in fact, you would say it's fucking great.

You may have noticed I didn't translate the word chingonario.  That's because there isn't translation.  Yes, I hear you.  You're thinking...

Entonces, ¿que chingados es un chingonario?
So, what the fuck is a chinganario?

Let me explain.

Chingonario = Chingón + Diccionario

The verb chingar has a multitude of uses, and although I've talked about a few of them before, wouldn't it be nice to have a reference at your fingertips that tells you everything you need to know? That's where the chinganario comes in.

The chinganario is a dictionary of the word chingar and it's most common uses with practical explanations and examples of how the family of chingar related words are used.  Que chingón, ¿no?

The chingonario has a ton of great expressions like:

La función es hasta casa de la chingada, así ni gratis voy
The event is in the middle of fucking nowhere, I'm not going even if it's free

That's more of a figurative translation than a literal one, because literal translations are often very hard to come by when it comes to swearing.

Esa estúpida me manda todo a la hora de la salida, nomás por chingar
That stupid lady sent me everything when it was time to leave, just to fuck with me

I've got a copy of this book myself and I have to admit it's helped me understand some of the Spanish being spoken around me and especially the Spanish I hear being used in movies.

Just a few weeks ago I overheard two friends talking and they used a slew of the words and expressions found in this book.

You may have noticed the book is completely in Spanish.  Yes, you'll need a decent understanding of Spanish and/or be willing to accept the challenge of reading a book in Spanish.  Either way, you're going to learn a lot and really enjoy this book.

¡No mames!

This expression is one of the staples of Mexican slang.  In fact, I would say it's almost exclusively Mexican.  If you hear someone say this, chances are they're Mexican or learned it from Mexicans.  In fact, everything in this post is probably very Mexican.

Enough chit-chat, let's get on with it.

Actually, before we get to "no mames", Let's talk about the verb mamar, meaning to suck.  However, like most slang, it's usage goes well beyond its original meaning.  

Let;s start with the word mamadas.  Mamadas could be translated as lies, except that mamadas is one of those words classified as not for polite company. So with that in mind, I would translate mamadas as something closer to bullshit.

No me digas tus mamadas
Don't tell me any of your bullshit

You could also substitute pendejadas for mamadas.  It's  not quite as strong, but still not polite.  I'd translate pendejadas as dumbshit.


No me digas tus pendejadas 
Don't tell me any of your dumb shit


Next we come to mamada.   Notice that we dropped the 's'.  That small change in spelling makes a big change in meaning.

A mamada is a blow job.   I usually like to use pictures to help drive the meaning home, but I suspect that would be a little too much in this case.  Besides, I don't think much more of an explanation is needed, so I'll just give you a few examples:

Quiero que me hagas una mamada
I want you to give me a blow job

A mamazo is also a blow job, but not just any old blow job, it's a really great blow job.

Esa viejta me acabe de dar la mejor mamazo de mi vida
That old lady just gave me the best blowjob of my life

OK, now it's time to move on to "no mames".

"No mames" is one of those catch-all expressions that can  mean damn near anything depending on the context.  Translation is a tricky thing, so I'm reluctant to say that "no mames" directly translates to one particular word or phrase in English.  The key here is that you need to understand the spirit of the phrase, which by the way in no means should be used in polite company. 

Don't worry, "no mames" is something you'll quickly get the hang of, you just need a few examples.

Hoy me despidieron.
They fired me today.
¡No mames! ¿Porqué?
No fucking way! Why?

Págame mi dinero, güey. 
Pay me my money dude.
¡No mames, güey! Te pago mañana. 
Don't fucking worry dude, I’ll pay you tomorrow.

Oye mano, ¡gané la lotería!
Dude, I won the lottery!
No mames.  ¿En serio?
No shit? Seriously?

Ever have someone who just won't stop bothering you?  Just tell them...

¡No mames! Dejame en paz
Stop fucking bugging me, leave me alone

Depending on the situation, you could also translate the above as "Stop fucking around".

The truth is "no mames" is something you just have to experience and you'll figure it out quickly enough.   And with that said, I'll leave you with a video.

 You won't hear all the uses of "no mames" in this video, but it'll get you off to a good start and hopefully you'll get a few laughs out of it as well.   I suspect that even if you didn't have my recommendations on how to translate "no mames", you'd come up with a translation on your own.

No sabes la golfa que es

Golfa refers to a woman, but not just any woman, but the kind of woman who likes to sleep around.  The word in English is slut.

Let's translate todays phrase.

You don't know what a slut she is

Here's a short video so you can hear this word in action.  Be sure to listen for our phrase in the video.

You've just been introduced to La Famila del Barrio.  When in comes to bad language, these guys rock, especially if you're interested in Mexican Spanish.  You'll notice in the video golfa is translated as whore, and while slut and whore are sometimes used interchangeably depending on the context, I think slut is more accurate.

Here's another example:

¿Viste esa chava?  ¡Es golfa!
Did you see that girl?  She's a slut.

Before I forget, golfa is Mexican Spanish.  The standard Spanish word is zorra.

Teresa es una zorra, anda con uno y con otro
Theresa is a slut, she goes around with one guy after another

La hermana de Diego es muy zorra
Diego's sister is a real slut

There's also golfo, which is a guy who sleeps around a lot.
